Assistant Director – Principal Investigator, University of Cincinnati School of Social Work
Professor Xan Boone has been in the field of social work since 1989, specializing primarily in child welfare. As a former employee of Lucas County Juvenile Court and Hamilton County Job and Family Services, Children’s Services Division, she received a plethora of child welfare experience from case management to supervision. She received her Bachelor of Science in Political Science and her Master of Social Work from the University of Cincinnati.
Xan was a trainer and coach for the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program (OCWTP) for 16 years, traveling the state of Ohio conducting training for child welfare workers and coaching caseworkers and supervisors on best practices in the field. She also had the opportunity to travel to Ukraine and work with their government on the development of a child welfare foster care program. She received the OCWTP’s 2010 Rising Star Award and the OCWTP’s 2015 Linda Pope Award.
Xan has been a full-time faculty member for the University of Cincinnati School of Social Work since September 2007. She is an assistant director and the social work Primary Investigator (PI) for Ohio’s University Consortium on Child and Adult Services (OUCCAS) and the PI for The University Partnership Program (UPP). She is also co-director for Preparing Early Intervention Providers for the Opioid Epidemic (PEPOpE), a Department of Education (DOE) grant.
Xan has been leading study abroad programs at UC since 2014 and has traveled with students to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Peru, Tanzania, Cancun, Costa Rica, and Italy.
